Peer Councils

By invitation only

The Peer Council brings together a small, trusted table of principals, outside the business and beyond the competition, for the decisions that cannot be taken anywhere else.

About Peer Councils

A structured advisory council for FSP principals, built around twelve months, eight members, and one table.

The Peer Council is a rigorous, confidential, and professionally facilitated peer engagement, built specifically for principals of South African financial services firms who are ready to be challenged as owners and as leaders - not merely as advisors. It is not a networking group, a CPD event, or a mastermind programme.

Every member brings a practice, a perspective, and a set of challenges, and every session is governed by the Chatham House Rule, so that what is said in the room stays in the room.

"You get caught up in the daily grind too quickly, and eventually it dominates everything. It sort of overshadows life and living."

How it Works

Two structures, one arc, unfolding over twelve months.

Each month combines a group Council session with an individual one-on-one: two formats that operate at different depths and serve different purposes.

Monthly Council Session

  • Four hours per session

  • Two structured Hot Seats per meeting

  • The Hot Seat is not about advice; it is about the       room thinking through a real problem together

  • Chatham House Rule: no names, no attribution outside the room

  • Facilitated, not chaired. The facilitator holds the process; members hold the conversation

Monthly One-on-One

  • Sixty minutes, strictly structured

  • Board debrief and accountability on the previous month's commitment

  • Strategic Arc sprint: one theme per month, deepening over the year

  • The One Thing: a single, concrete commitment for the month ahead

  • Confidential — this is the coaching layer beneath the group layer

  The 12-month Journey

Each year unfolds as a structured progression through four phases, a framework built to ensure that no important dimension of the business goes unexamined over the twelve months, rather than a curriculum to be worked through.

What Actually Gets Discussed

The things that go
unsaid everywhere else.

Two meetings into Peer Council #1, the room had already moved through questions that most FSP principals have never spoken aloud to another professional: the tension between being the best advisor in the building and building a business that no longer depends on you, the true cost of stepping back from the intellectual engagement of portfolio management, what becomes of the practice in your absence, and when you last set aside an hour to think about yourself rather than the business or the clients.

"In one conversation, a member shared a structure that had averted a multi-million-rand CGT event for a client. That single insight covered the year's membership, many times over."

The Council Members

Eight principals, deliberately chosen to be non-competing.

Each Peer Council is assembled with care, its members selected for complementarity across business models, stages, and strengths, so that the room is useful to everyone seated in it.
